Derek Obialo is an experienced litigator with a concentrated practice area in civil construction and commercial law in the past 12 years. He holds Juris Doctor, cum laude, from the University of Miami, 2007, Master of Business Administration from the Houston Baptist University, 2003, Barrister at Law from the Nigeria Law School, 1991, and Bachelor of Laws from the Abia State University, 1990.
Mr. Obialo was born in Nigeria to parents who were both public servants. He learned early on the value of hard work, perseverance and compassion, and the importance of justice and equity in fashioning a safe, nurturing, and enduring society. He immigrated to the Houston area in 1994. After working in several organizations and in construction claims consulting, he proceeded to obtain his second law degree from the University of Miami.
Mr. Obialo is a member of the College of the State Bar, State Bar Construction Law and Litigation Sections, Fort Bend County Bar Association, Nigerian American Bar Association, volunteer guest speaker at college career day event, and he is involved in several community progressive activities. He resides in Fort Bend County with his wife Dorothy and four children.
